Dr. Adam Birkenheuer graduated from the University of Florida with his DVM and then earned his PhD in immunology from NC State University. A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, he is a professor of internal medicine at NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Birkenheuer is an expert on tick-borne diseases. His research focuses on the epidemiology, molecular diagnosis, and treatment of vector-borne diseases in dogs and cats. He has also been published in prominent medical journals, including the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation, and Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
